James Defontain, aged 25, found guilty on an indictment for a burglary in the dwelling house of John Thomas in the parish of St Mary, Newington on 9th February 1786: stealing therefrom 3 lien handkerchiefs (valued at 13/-), 4 muslin neckcloths (valued at 10/-), 7 yards of spotted lawn (valued at 10/-), 2½ yards of flowered muslin (valued at 2/-), a yard of muslin dimity (valued at 3/-), 8 muslin handkerchiefs (valued at 12/-), 7 silk and muslin handkerchiefs (value at 18/-) and 4 printed calico shawls (valued at 16/-).
